Pieces

waitin' at the threshold of time
as life leaves us lookin' out over
a field where a late season dies

my life is as that season, lookin'
over its shoulder, lookin' at what
it leaves behind maybe with some
of those lost pieces it just can't find

sometimes you're collecting those
pieces remains of what once was
until they al come together as it was

I spend a lifetime collecting those pieces
and they almost have come together still
a couple are left, I myself am the last piece
to collect

that's what life is collecting pieces
until they all come together at a window
in time giving us a chance to see what lies
ahead on the other side

Ol' glass

Glass is gettin' old breakin' up
goin' to pieces after so much
it gave an old glass so many
memories it had

and it breaks can't be replaced
all its memories erased breakin'
up goin' to pieces

it breaks away underneath my
fingers its memories crushed
to flinters

can't be replaced erasin' al the
names that held her used her
'till its pleasure came

it was great a short long life
it had filled up to the rim it
was at its best

never said no to a drink never
came second best never had any
rest

and the old glass it gave without
any resistance it gave all its life
in an unheard sigh

without any fright catchin' that
last light an old glass on the shelf
crushed to pieces

without shoutin' 'help' it vanished
into the past without a clash it didn't
last

Willpower

my mind is filled with tears
never crying

my heart is filled with pieces
never breaking

my days are short and long lived
and time has come never healing

yet willpower is doing just that
