Driftin'

not knowing where I'm going
not knowing where I'll be is the road
I don't see unwinding ahead of me

and I'm counting the people
as I'm going by not knowing
where they're  going
no name comes to my mind

and I'm drifting as I always do
to the end of this road
where no one is waiting for me
or maybe they're just the ones
I don't recognise or see

of a new road into my life

how the game is played

we will cover the whole scene

from New York to Abilene
the white powder is a test
if you're strong enough to

more like a game, a game to
get used to

leavin'' on the Midnight train
not knowin where I'm going to
I say goodbye to all the yesterdays
because my tomorrows never do

an' I'm tavellin' light
as I always do when I'm leavin'
leavin'  a woman in a past now
gone dusty an' grey

I'm on my way I look ahead into
the distance of a new tomorow as

Fame and glory

being young an' naive 

I was waiting

for my future's promised seeds 

not knowin'

where or when they would fall 

I wondered

would they ever fall at all

I was cast down 

yet getting stronger feelin'  stronger 

I was peakin' 

almost ready for any challenge

in my reach 

it was my seeds I was needin' 

they were nowhere in sight 

I decided I would be the seeds of my life

almost too late I thought 

I let them fall 

and when they were grown 

I harvested them 

day by day one by one

and they gave me what I had waited for

I rose to fame an' glory 

somethin' now

I can hardly understand
