yesterdays

when tomorrow has chosen no longer to be

and the night can't be bothered to show

and all you have is your yesterdays

it's good to know your yesterdays

will always show

Acceptation

no more happy days to lean on
no more yesterdays to dream of
as an aching heart is not the best
table to feast on

where happiness is your dead end street
where your light can't see and if you want
to know your future, you will do well to
read your past

it is that acceptation that in the end will
make it last

No man's land

I've been there for so long
time flies into my yesterdays
must be years ago I came in a land
that never knew hay

no beauty as far as I can see
here an' there the odd appletree
no homestead at all only two walls
to guard it all

it's hard to believe, I here did find my peace
from a world forever at war, this place to me
is unigue

a place where the odd stranger comes running
before a storm bringin' bullets and rain, I help
him beat this storm

help him to a place out of the rain, where he thinks
home is not far away, where he thinks it has a bed to
sleep, where its stairs do not run steep

just I know where he'd rather be, safest place on earth
is right here, in 'no man's land' an everlasting peace
where the occaisional bullet is released

where nobody wants to be and the skies are clear
where I drink a quiet beer, I'm at ease here, livin'
close to those walls, where they can't see me

can't get me into their sight, where I live, stay
alive, I love my 'no man's land', a land nobody
claims, in my heart it has no rain

Time's on my side

as the night comes into sight
I turn to pour myself a drink, it's a precious moment
I know what I will see, the good times of my yesterday's
at the threshold of sleep

a drink does it all to me and yes life's been good to me
before I know it happens, all are in front of me smiling
sitting 'round the fire, burning lazily

remembering those years, I do recall, wish they'd come
come near, I can name ev'ry face, know all their tales
I put down my head and try to get a rest

and I'm so very happy, they're the memories I try to have
and stay, I;m not old yet not young, but got years enough
to have those dreams now and then and relive the good
times again

all my loves are there, so much we still share
they talk to me all night, so very happy to slip
back into time

it's what I live for, having those dreams, see them
all again, I know , can;t leave it, must see them
ev'ry time, they're my relatives, they keep me alive

and yes, it's been a good drink, have slept all night
I try to waken, yet there is no change, they're still
here, is this fiction, reality, am I still alive, actually
I don't care, I've got time on my side

Painless=less pain

walking down the streets of my youth
looking here and there for something
old not new

its laughter and pain come to my mind
yesterday's not always, a good thing to
look for and find

'cause your pain, will always become
more, than you'd ever left behind

so now, I'm wandering through my past
and still I miss that light, I then had it
disappeared and left me over night

never to reclaim its right, to shine again
so very bright, a thing of the past, a lot
of pain, a lot of what I never had

but now, shifting through the leafs of time
now I find, my pain has become more or less
less paimless, now I can shine agian, maybe
so very bright, somewhere in time

Shade of loveliness

and when I see her walking
in the early hours of the morning
through the fields of our yesterdays
with the shine of a new tomorrow
in her eyes I can only sigh

it is when I love her innocence the most
walking through our morning's haze into
the brightness of a coming day wondering
what life will bring when our future finds
its self where our hearts sigh

and when I see her walking in the early hours
of this morning with a breeze running through
the darkness of her hair I know it is that shade
of loveliness I want to share

Leavin' is all I do

leavin'' on the Midnight train
not knowin where I'm going to
I say goodbye to all the yesterdays
because my tomorrows never do

an' I'm tavellin' light
as I always do when I'm leavin'
leavin'  a woman in a past now
gone dusty an' grey

I'm on my way I look ahead into
the distance of a new tomorow as
I allways do when I'm leavin' 'cause
leavin' yes leavin' is all I do

and I'm leavin'on the Midnight train
not knowin' where I'm goin' to I say
goodbye to all my yesterdays 'cause
that's what yesterdays allways do

an I'm travellin' on into my new tomorrow
where I'll meet my yesterday again as I'm
leavin on the Midnight train leavin' my woman
leavin' her my yesterday...

'cause leavin' is all I ever do

Satisfied

there are the times my heart misses a beat
and hits a minor key, when I think of all those
yesterdays dusty an' grey, and I'll be lost in my
sadness

of what might have been, an' just turned out not to be,
'cause one thing a past will never do is, change its taken
course when is has been sung out of tune

and I have so many a time, and my rope was getting
shorter ev'rytime, but that's life, getting the wrong end
of the stick was getting to be a habit to me, someone told
me I had to quit and just let it be

and I did, I managed to get back on track, getting more
an' more satisfied with what I had, more an' more responsible
for what I did and said,, getting into old age gave me a break

I was satisfied, yet not old but still alive inside, my thoughts
will always get the better of me, just hoping time will give me
some more an' not give up too soon on me, even now, I'll always
be comin' back satisfied with what I have

Tobacco road

Midsummer, Sunday afternoon
sun's high up in the sky at the
sweat of the day

fields o' green dominate the vieuw
there's a humm a song rises up someone
starts to sing about the only freedom he
has

the freedom within, it's a religious song
a powerfull song, a bearer of strenght
others pick up on it start fallin' in

it sings about all the lost yesterdays
an' their tomorrows, as it finds its way
down Tobacco road

where the blues never end
