Sleep

when the night is lonely

and begs the morning to come in

is it only the sleep of the justified

that separates them

Whispering

and sometimes I hear her
when she comes to me in my sleep
and into the restlesness of my thoughts
whispering to me her words as melodies of love
and I wonder will she come and visit me again
as the night closes in where she's my hunger and pain
knowing she will whisper but never come again

Time's on my side

as the night comes into sight
I turn to pour myself a drink, it's a precious moment
I know what I will see, the good times of my yesterday's
at the threshold of sleep

a drink does it all to me and yes life's been good to me
before I know it happens, all are in front of me smiling
sitting 'round the fire, burning lazily

remembering those years, I do recall, wish they'd come
come near, I can name ev'ry face, know all their tales
I put down my head and try to get a rest

and I'm so very happy, they're the memories I try to have
and stay, I;m not old yet not young, but got years enough
to have those dreams now and then and relive the good
times again

all my loves are there, so much we still share
they talk to me all night, so very happy to slip
back into time

it's what I live for, having those dreams, see them
all again, I know , can;t leave it, must see them
ev'ry time, they're my relatives, they keep me alive

and yes, it's been a good drink, have slept all night
I try to waken, yet there is no change, they're still
here, is this fiction, reality, am I still alive, actually
I don't care, I've got time on my side

Going somewhere

somehow we're going somewhere
meeting the winter with care treating
my mind with care longing for the
sun not there

how come it's not there not shining
through my hair it's frozen me into
a deep sleep hibernation time is here

has come out of nowhere nature's,
little timebomb has gone off bringing
rain, cloudy days, stormy nights, blinding
light snow and ice

right at your doorstep, another try to get
through thawing out the ice, taking what's
mine taking what's there

it's been years, where is that smile it was
wiped out when I came back from that
long long ride at the edge of life

The remains of the day

tired of the day to sleep I me lay
I take with me the remains of the day
some nice some sad dreams aren't that
bad

things linger on, bring on a restless night
broken moonlight invades my dreams givin'
me an unease

yet most of the time I'm allright, a first ray
of sunlight, up an' about, cryin' out loud ready
for a new day

it will make me sing, the remains of that day
I'll take with me when to sleep I me lay

not an empty head in the room
they were so intelligenr, they
weren't all born with a broom

she's like a leather bag
full of skin and a lot of class

she's like a paperbag
full of air and nothingness


a whisper's in the air
going through the galleries
keeps hangin' there

sometimes walls do hear
and carry it through to
the house most near

a whisper in the galleries
has destroyed many fears


I have no tears
for eyes that see
yet are blind

I laid my hand on the tombstone
as I had done so many times
out came a cry you spoke to me
from beyond the skies

ev'ry conversation a battlefield
ev'ry word a sword into the heart
how can you expect any love

arrived safe in

with an experience
no one can take
